Keeping Cool

Storm has been pestering me to allow him to get a pool. Yes, despite the fact that our yard consists of soil that is unbelievably sticky when it's wet and it dries into a frightfully hard crust and that we have two very tall, crazy leaf and berry littering trees (in addition to the other two trees)...he still wants a pool!

So, in light of the fact that his mum, Mavis, left us some money to buy a pool for the girls for their birthday I went out and got it. It got filled and we spent an afternoon "beating the heat".

It turned out that the dogs were the first ones to enjoy it. I can understand as being outside in this heat in a fur jacket would be quite stinky so in went Rudy.
And then in went Storm. He doesn't look very comfortable does he?
But it didn't take him long and Oscar was wanting to hop in with him.
We thought that we'd try and give the girls ice cream (yes, we have weird kids that don't like sweet things) and it took them quite a while to get used to eating ice cream. Actually soon after these photos were taken, Kendall handed me her cone and was finished.

I helped her.

It's those kind of sacrifices that make mums. Mums take one for the team...
 Dripping, dripping, dripping...
Sydney did eat more of the ice cream but it took her much longer to get started. Such a cute tummy.
Here's part of the clean-up crew. Oscar thought he was in seventh heaven and couldn't lick fast enough.
By the time she handed it to me to tell me she was done, it was a wet, soggy mess of cone and cream that I couldn't help her. I couldn't eat it in it's slobbery, scrunched up state. I was a bad mummy not willing to take one for the team - a second time anyway.
So, what do you do when you're covered in ice cream and unwilling to get into the pool? You hang around the outside of the pool and get your face washed.
And try and drink the water. (Oh well, I've always said my kids will have a great immune system...)
So, the question still remains...will Stormy get his way and get his pool? Here are the three main reasons that will not be happening:
1. We have the blue bathtub in the backyard, so no need for a big pool and pool fence
2. A big swimming pool up at the club that we can use (and not have to clean!), so no need for a big pool and pool fence

3. We need the $$ to save and put towards the dreamhome. Now that's going to be where we have a kick ass pool.

Just wait and see.
